FRITZ!Powerline 1260E Service

Changing the name of the wireless network (SSID) of FRITZ!Powerline

FRITZ!Powerline has a default wireless network name (SSID) in the factory settings. If you want to give your wireless network a unique name, you can easily change the wireless network name.

We recommend using identical wireless network names in your home network. This makes it easier for wireless devices to switch between wireless networks (wireless roaming). If you are using FRITZ!Powerline in "wireless bridge" mode, you should change the wireless network name of the wireless router (for example a FRITZ!Box) first because you must reconfigure all of the wireless connections after changing the wireless network name.

Note:The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for FRITZ!Powerline.

1 Changing the name of the wireless network (SSID)

  1. Click "Wireless" ("WLAN") in the FRITZ!Powerline user interface.
  2. Click "Radio Network" in the "Wireless" ("WLAN") menu.
  3. In the fields "Name of the wireless radio network (SSID)", enter a unique name for the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz frequency band without special characters.

Note:We suggest using identical wireless network names for both frequency bands so that FRITZ!Powerline can automatically steer individual wireless devices to the most suitable frequency band (band steering).

  4. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
