Changing FRITZ!Powerline's wireless security settings

When FRITZ!Powerline is configured for "wireless bridge" mode, it adopts the wireless security settings of the wireless router (for example a FRITZ!Box) when you set it up. When used as a "LAN bridge" or "powerline bridge", the adapter makes a wireless network available with its own wireless security settings that can be changed during the set up procedure.

You can change FRITZ!Powerline's wireless security settings any time.

Note:We recommend using identical wireless settings for your entire home network in order to allow wireless devices to easily switch between wireless networks (wireless roaming).

1 Enabling the wireless network

  1. Click "Wireless" ("WLAN") in the FRITZ!Powerline user interface.
  2. Click "Radio Network" in the "Wireless" ("WLAN") menu.
  3. Enable the wireless network.
  4. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

2 Changing the wireless security settings

  1. Click "Wireless" ("WLAN") in the FRITZ!Powerline user interface.
  2. Click "Security" in the "Wireless" ("WLAN") menu.
  3. Click on the "Encryption" tab.

ATTENTION!You should only consider setting up a non-encrypted wireless network if the wireless devices you are using do not support WPA encryption.

  4. If you would like to use secure WPA encryption (recommended):
    1. Enable the option "WPA encryption".
    2. Select "WPA2 (CCMP)" for the "WPA mode".

Note:If you still use wireless devices that do not support WPA2, you can use the setting "WPA + WPA2". If you select this setting, your wireless devices will automatically use the safest WPA mode for wireless connections.

    3. Enter a password of your choice that is between 16 and 63 characters long in the "Network key" field.

Important:To ensure optimal security, the password should be at least 20 characters long and contain capital and lower-case letters (but not letters such as ä, ë, ö, ü, é, í), digits, and other characters.

    • If you do not want to use encryption (not recommended), which would leave your wireless network unprotected, enable the option "non-encrypted".
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

Now the popup window "Wireless LAN Access" with the new wireless security settings for the powerline adapter opens. Print out or make note of them and reconfigure the wireless connection to FRITZ!Powerline.
