Having the push service send status messages on smart home devices

Your FRITZ!Box can send you e-mail messages at regular intervals, known as "push service mails", to report on the status of your FRITZ!DECT device and provide you with information about its use. You can specify which events in FRITZ!DECT you would like to be informed about and how often these e-mails should be sent. Push services are available for different functions.
Depending on the settings, the "Smart Home" push service sends e-mails with information about the output, consumption, and switching status of your FRITZ!DECT.

Example:
Your washing machine is connected to the outlet switch. As soon as the washing cycle has finished, i.e. when the washing machine switches to standby mode, you would like to receive corresponding notification by e-mail.

In this guide we use this example to show you a possible application scenario and how to configure the push service for smart home.

Note:The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for your FRITZ!Box.

1 Configuring a smart home device

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. If available, select the option "All smart home devices" in the drop-down list "viewing".
  4. Click the button (General) or the button (Edit) for the respective device.
  5. Click on the "Switch automatically" tab.
  6. Enable the option "Switch off on standby", then select a power threshold and the duration.
  7. Click "OK" to save the settings.

2 Configuring the push service

Entering e-mail account information

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Push Service" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click the "Configure Push Service" button, if present. If it is not displayed, click the "Sender" tab.
  4. Enter your e-mail address and the e-mail account password.

    Important:The password for your e-mail account is not the same as the password required to access your personal customer account data.

  5. Click "Account Information - Additional Settings".
    • The following values are entered automatically if you select a preconfigured provider as your e-mail provider in the FRITZ!Box.
  6. Enter the user name for the e-mail account in the "E-mail user name" field.
  7. Enter the SMTP server in the "SMTP server" field.
  8. In the "Port" field, enter the port used by the server to communicate, for example 587, if the server does not use port 25 to communicate. Your e-mail provider can tell you what to enter for the SMTP server.
  9. Enable the option "This server supports a secure connection (SSL)" if the server supports it.
  10. Click the "Next" button.
    • A test e-mail is sent to the e-mail address you entered.

Enabling the push service for smart home

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Push Service" in the "System" menu.
  3. Enable "Smart Home" and click the button (Edit).
  4. Enable "Push service enabled" and "for every switching event".
  5. Click "OK" to save the settings.

The outlet switch automatically turns off and the push service sends you a corresponding e-mail as soon as the washing machine switches to standby mode, causing its power threshold to fall below the defined value for the amount of time you specified.
