FRITZ!Box 7590 Service

Changing the name of the Wi-Fi network (SSID) of the FRITZ!Box

In the factory settings, the FRITZ!Box has a preset Wi-Fi network name (SSID) followed by two randomly chosen letters (for example FRITZ!Box 7590 XY).

If you want to use a unique name for your FRITZ!Box's Wi-Fi network, you can easily change the Wi-Fi network name. We recommend using identical Wi-Fi network names for both frequency bands so that the FRITZ!Box can automatically steer wireless devices to the wireless access point with the best Wi-Fi reception and also to the most suitable frequency band (Mesh Wi-Fi steering).

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Disabling the adoption of settings from the Mesh

If you are using the FRITZ!Box as a Mesh Repeater, you must first disable the adoption of settings from the Mesh:

2 Changing the name of the Wi-Fi network (SSID)

  1. Click "Wi-Fi" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Wi-Fi Network" ("Radio Network") in the "Wi-Fi" ("Wireless") menu.
  3. Enter a unique name in the field "Name of the Wi-Fi network (SSID)".
  4. Click "Apply" to save the settings. All Wi-Fi connections to the FRITZ!Box are cleared when the new Wi-Fi network name is adopted. You must then reconfigure the Wi-Fi connections to the FRITZ!Box.
