FRITZ!Box 7590 Service

Changing the name of the Wi-Fi network (SSID) of the FRITZ!Box

In the factory settings, the FRITZ!Box has a preset Wi-Fi network name (SSID) followed by two randomly chosen letters (for example FRITZ!Box 7590 XY).

If you want to use a unique name for your FRITZ!Box's Wi-Fi network, you can easily change the Wi-Fi network name. We recommend using identical Wi-Fi network names for both frequency bands so that the FRITZ!Box can automatically steer wireless devices to the wireless access point with the best wireless reception and also to the most suitable frequency band (Mesh Wi-Fi steering).

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Disabling the adoption of settings from the Mesh

If you are using the FRITZ!Box as a Mesh Repeater, you must first disable the adoption of settings from the Mesh:

2 Changing the name of the Wi-Fi network (SSID)

  1. Click "Wireless" ("WLAN") in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Radio Network" in the "Wireless" ("WLAN") menu.
  3. Enter a unique name in the field "Name of the wireless radio network (SSID)".
  4. Click "Apply" to save the settings. All Wi-Fi connections to the FRITZ!Box are cleared when the new Wi-Fi network name is adopted. You must then reconfigure the Wi-Fi connections to the FRITZ!Box.
