Setting up group switching for smart home devices

You can combine several smart home devices into a group and then easily switch and control them together. Then you can switch a group of several outlet switches, for example FRITZ!DECT 200, automatically according to a schedule or depending on temperature. If necessary, you can also manually switch a group for which a schedule is set up.
In addition, you can also define a switching actuator as a so-called "master. When it is switched, the whole group is switched.

You can also organize FRITZ!DECT radiator controls into groups and then easily control several radiators in the same room together, for example.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • It is not possible to manually switch a group with outlet switches for which you set up temperature-based switching.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Creating a group

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click the "New Group" button.
  4. Select the kind of device ("Switching Actuators" or "Radiator control") you want to combine in the group and click "OK".
  5. Enter a name for the group and select the smart home devices you want to switch together in the group.
  6. Click the "OK" button. The group is created.
  7. In the next window, click "OK" to save the settings.

2 Switching a group with outlet switches

Outlet switches, so-called "switch actuators", that you have grouped together can either be controlled automatically, via a "Master", or manually, if necessary:

Switching a group automatically

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Select the option "All groups" from the drop-down list "viewing".
  4. Click the (Edit) button for the "Group switch" of the group you want to configure automatic switching for.
  5. In the "Automatic switching" section, select the option "Switch group automatically" and set up the desired schedule.
  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Switching a group via a "Master"

You can define a smart home device as the so-called "master". When it is switched automatically or manually, all devices in the "master's" group are switched as well. The "master" does not have to belong to the group you want to switch:

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Select the option "All groups" from the drop-down list "viewing".
  4. Click the button (Edit) that corresponds to the group for which you want to configure switching via a "Master".
  5. In the "Automatic switching" section, enable the option "Switch group via a FRITZ! actuator ('master')" and select the device you want to use as the "Master" from the drop-down list "Actuator".
  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Switching a group manually

If you manually switch a group with outlet switches that you also set up an automatic switching schedule for, the manual switching applies until the next automatic switching time occurs:

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click the on/off switch for "Group switch" in the section "Group [name of the group]".

Note:You can also manually switch the smart home group in the home network using a FRITZ!Fon (menu "Home Network > Smart Home") or over the internet with MyFRITZ!App.

3 Switching a group with radiator controls

Radiator controls that you have grouped together can either be controlled automatically or manually:

Note:You cannot use a FRITZ!DECT smart button, for example FRITZ!DECT 400, to switch radiator controls.

Automatically controlling a group with a radiator control

  5. Set up the desired time and vacation switching.
  6. Under "Heating off", define when the radiator should not heat.
  7. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Manually controlling a group with a radiator control

If you manually switch a group of radiator controls that you also set up an automatic switching schedule for, the manual switching applies until the next automatic switching time occurs:

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. In the section "Group [name of the group]", click the plus or minus for "Group switch" under "Temperature target" to change the temperature of the group.

Note:You can also manually switch the radiator group in the home network using a FRITZ!Fon (menu "Home Network > Smart Home") or over the internet with MyFRITZ!App.

When group switching is enabled for outlet switches, you can manually switch an individual outlet switch directly on the device itself, or you can use the FRITZ!Box user interface (in the "Home Network" menu under "Smart Home") if you set up an automatic switching schedule, but not temperature-based switching. As soon as the next automatic group switching occurs, the device is then once again subject to the group switching settings.
