Does the FRITZ!Box support the WDS method?
The FRITZ!Box does not support the WDS (Wireless Distribution System) method. The trade association Wi-Fi Alliance stopped the development of WDS over 10 years ago. The WDS specification was therefore never adapted to the latest wireless standards for security and speed such as WPA2 and wireless 802.11n.
WDS connections were intended to be established using the obsolete and insecure WEP encryption method. However, WEP encryption may no longer be used with the wireless standard 802.11ac.
The FRITZ!Box's method for increasing Wi-Fi range offers a modern and secure alternative.
Note:Most FRITZ!Box models support the method for increasing the Wi-Fi range if the latest FRITZ!OS is installed. This method is not necessary if you use a FRITZ!Repeater.
