Incorrect or unknown entries in the list of "Devices and Users"
The FRITZ!Box lists all computers, smartphones, and other network devices such as powerline adapters known to the FRITZ!Box under "Home Network > Network > Devices and Users" in the user interface. Here the FRITZ!Box also displays all Windows users for which parental controls have been configured.
One symbol indicates how the devices are connected: for wireless devices and for devices connected to the FRITZ!Box by network cable. The symbol indicates a powerline adapter; entries for Windows users for which parental controls been configured are not displayed with a symbol.
Note:If it is not clear whether a list entry is a user or a device, then it is does not have a symbol.
The FRITZ!Box displays network devices with their host names if the devices send them to the FRITZ!Box when they obtain their IP settings via DHCP. By default, devices that do not send their host names to the FRITZ!Box are displayed with their IP address (for example "PC-192-168-178-20") or powerline adapters are displayed with their network device names.
All devices are displayed with their current IP address. Devices that are not currently connected to the FRITZ!Box are displayed with their last IP address.
Since the FRITZ!Box also registers it when devices are briefly connected using a different connection type or IP address, it may appear that devices are listed several times or with an incorrect IP address, and/or with the incorrect connection type. Therefore, note the following information on certain entries that may appear in the "Devices and Users" list.
Note:The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.
1 Wireless devices without IP address are present
If unknown wireless devices are displayed in the list of "Devices and Users" that have names beginning with "PC" (for example "PC-00-23-14-DD-89-44") and do not have IP addresses:
2 Multiple entries for device present
Devices are listed twice in the list of "Devices and Users" if they automatically obtain their IP settings from the FRITZ!Box via DHCP on one occasion and on another occasion are connected to the FRITZ!Box with an IP address that was manually assigned to it. This is not an error on the part of the FRITZ!Box.
If these duplicate entries bother you, you can delete them as follows:
Configuring the device to automatically obtain IP settings
- Configure the device to automatically obtain IP settings via DHCP.
Turning off the device
- Turn off the device that is listed more than once in the list of "Devices and Users".
Deleting the device from the user interface
Delete all entries for the device that is displayed more than once:
- Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Network" in the "Home Network" menu.
- Click on the "Devices and Users" tab.
- Click the (Delete) button next to the respective device in the list of "Devices and Users".
Restarting the FRITZ!Box
- Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Backup" in the "System" menu.
- Click on the "Restart" tab.
- Click the "Restart" button.
When you now turn the devices on, they will only be displayed once in the list of "Devices and Users".
