Switching to a different FRITZ!Box model

It is easy to replace the FRITZ!Box you are currently using with a different one. You can conveniently import many of the settings from your old FRITZ!Box, for example the telephone book, users, and wireless settings. This means that little configuration is required when switching to a newer FRITZ!Box model or using a different FRITZ!Box model if you change from one line type to another, for example from ADSL to VDSL.

Important:The information on the new FRITZ!Box applies to the FRITZ!Box model given above this guide.

Note:The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for your FRITZ!Box.

1 Installing the latest FRITZ!OS on the old FRITZ!Box

To what extent the old settings can be imported into the new FRITZ!Box depends on the range of functions offered by the individual FRITZ!Box model and the FRITZ!OS being used. Install the latest FRITZ!OS so that you can import as many settings from the old FRITZ!Box as possible:

2 Saving the old FRITZ!Box's settings

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Save Settings" or "Backup" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click on the "Save" tab.
  4. Enter a password.
  5. Click "Save" and confirm that the procedure may be executed on the FRITZ!Box, if you are asked to do so.
  6. Click "Save" or "Save Settings" and save the file "FRITZ.Box[...].export" on your computer.

3 Connecting and configuring the new FRITZ!Box

Depending on whether you will continue to use the new FRITZ!Box on your current line or will be using it after switching to a different provider or Internet plan, you must either only connect the FRITZ!Box to the DSL line, or you will be required to enter your new personal account information:

If you will be using the FRITZ!Box on the same line, you can import your personal account information from the old FRITZ!Box and do not have to configure it again:

  • Connect the FRITZ!Box to the DSL line as described in its manual.

Connecting and configuring the FRITZ!Box

If you changed to a different provider or Internet plan, you must also enter your new Internet account information and, if applicable, the login data for Internet telephony you received from your new provider:

  1. Connect the FRITZ!Box to the DSL line and configure the new account information.
  2. If applicable, also enter your new Internet telephone numbers.

4 Restoring the settings to the new FRITZ!Box

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Backup" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click on the "Restore" tab.
  4. Enable the option "From a different FRITZ!Box model".
  5. Enter the password you entered when saving the file.
  6. Click "Choose File" and select the file "FRITZ.Box[...].export" with the settings you wish to restore.
    • Now the FRITZ!Box shows you which settings can be restored.
  7. Enable the desired settings in the list.
  8. Click the "Restore" button.

The settings are restored and FRITZ!Box is restarted.

5 Final configuration steps for the FRITZ!Box

  • Register your cordless telephones with the FRITZ!Box.

    Note:All of the settings for your cordless telephones remain intact if you use their menus to register them and not the Wizard for telephony devices.

  • Register your DECT repeaters and smart home devices, for example FRITZ!DECT 200 or radiator controls, with the FRITZ!Box and configure them.
  • Check the IP configuration of your home network devices, settings for MyFRITZ!, port sharing, VPN connections, and change the settings if necessary.
