FRITZ!Box 7340 Service

The wireless guest access cannot be used to access the internet

Although wireless devices can register with the FRITZ!Box's wireless guest access, they cannot use it to access the internet. In some cases, new wireless devices do not obtain IP addresses from the FRITZ!Box.

Note:The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Reducing the validity period of IP addresses

180 IP addresses are available for wireless guest access; they cannot be reassigned until the validity period (lease time) of 10 days has expired. If the wireless guest access is used by many different wireless devices on a regular basis, for example when the FRITZ!Box is being used as a hotspot in a hotel or café, the FRITZ!Box cannot assign IP addresses to other wireless devices because all of the IP addresses have already been assigned. Therefore, configure the FRITZ!Box so that IP addresses are only valid for one day:

2 Removing devices from the user interface

The new validity period only applies to devices that are registered with the FRITZ!Box after the change was made. Therefore, delete all unused network devices:

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Network" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click on the "Devices and Users" tab.
  4. Click the (Delete) button next to the respective device in the list of "Devices and Users".
