FRITZ!Box 7330 Service

Accessing FRITZ!Box from the home network with user accounts

User accounts allow you to control who can access which areas of the FRITZ!Box. For example, you can allow a user to only access your vacation pictures on a USB storage device connected to the FRITZ!Box. Or you can set up a user who is allowed to listen to answering machine messages and use all FRITZ!App Fon functions, but has no further access to your FRITZ!Box.

In order to manage the rights and still have access to all of the settings, you need at least one user with the right to configure FRITZ!Box settings. This user can use http://fritz.box to access the user interface.
You only assign the desired rights to other users without access to the FRITZ!Box settings. These users must then use the address http://myfritz.box to access the FRITZ!Box and their rights are restricted.

In this guide we give you step-by-step instructions on setting up user accounts, assigning rights, and how to then log in to the FRITZ!Box.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • You can set up a maximum of 18 user accounts.

Note:The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for your FRITZ!Box.

1 Setting up a user account with the right to configure FRITZ!Box settings

Create at least one user account that can access the FRITZ!Box settings:

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "FRITZ!Box Users" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click the "Add User" button.
  4. Enable the option "User account enabled".
  5. Enter a user name, a valid email address, and a password for the user.
  6. Enable the option "Access from the internet allowed" if the user is also allowed to access the FRITZ!Box over the internet.
  7. Enable the option "FRITZ!Box Settings" under "Rights". You can assign additional rights according to your individual needs.
  8. Click "OK" to save the settings.

2 Setting up users with restricted authorization

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "FRITZ!Box Users" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click the "Add User" button.
  4. Enable the option "User account enabled".
  5. Enter a user name, a valid email address, and a password for the user.
  6. Enable the option "Access from the internet allowed" if you also want to allow the user to use the FRITZ!Box services for which he is authorized over the internet.
  7. Disable the option "FRITZ!Box Settings" under "Rights" because otherwise the user can access all settings.
  8. Assign additional rights according to the individual needs of the user.
  9. Click "OK" to save the settings.

3 Enabling login to the home network with user name and password

After you have created the users with the desired rights, enable login to the home network with user accounts:

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "FRITZ!Box Users" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click on the "Login to the Home Network" tab.
  4. Enable the option "Login with FRITZ!Box user name and password".
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

Now you can only log in to the FRITZ!Box with a user account, for example after entering a user name and password.

4 Logging in to the home network with user name and password

How a user logs in to the FRITZ!Box depends on the rights assigned to that user:

Important:Only users assigned the "FRITZ!Box settings" right can access the FRITZ!Box user interface directly by entering http://fritz.box!

  1. Call up fritz.box in a web browser if you are a user who was assigned "FRITZ!Box Settings" rights.
  2. Call up fritz.box in a web browser if you are a user who was not assigned "FRITZ!Box Settings" rights.
