Slow wireless connection (low data rate)
The data rate of the wireless connection (WiFi) established by a wireless device, for example a computer, smartphone, or tablet, to the FRITZ!Box is lower than allowed by the wireless standard. As a result, web pages load slowly, it takes a long time to download files, and video streams are either not displayed correctly or stop playing, for example.
1 Checking which wireless standards the wireless device supports
- Find out which wireless standards the wireless device supports and the maximum data rate it can establish wireless connections with. Refer to the manufacturer for information on the wireless device, for example consult the manual.
Note:FRITZ!WLAN Stick AC 430 supports 802.11ac/n/g/b/a (802.11ac with 433 Mbit/s gross),
FRITZ!WLAN Stick N supports 802.11n/g/b/a (802.11n with 300 Mbit/s gross),
FRITZ!WLAN Stick supports 802.11n/g/b (802.11n with 150 Mbit/s gross).
2 Determining the user data rate of the wireless connection
The user data rate of the wireless standard being used determines the speed at which data is transmitted over wireless connections. The user data rate is significantly lower than the data rate given for wireless standards since a large part of it is required to establish and control the wireless connection.
- Determine the user data rate of the wireless connection according to the standard being used by the wireless device:

Important:The maximum data rate for wireless standards 802.11n and 802.11ac depends on the number of data streams and the channel bandwidth. By default, the FRITZ!Box uses radio channels that are 40 MHz (802.11n) or 80 MHz (802.11ac) wide.
If the data throughput of the wireless device is nearly as high as the user data rate of the wireless connection, there is no error.
3 Optimizing the wireless connection
Perform the following step if the data throughput of the wireless device is significantly lower than the user data rate of the wireless connection:
