No status information available for a USB printer configured as a network printer

Computers in the home network cannot retrieve status information like ink or paper level for a USB printer connected to the FRITZ!Box when the printer is configured as a network printer.

Status information is not available for network printers

In order to transmit status information, two-way communication (bidirectional connection) between the USB printer and the computer must be possible. The FRITZ!Box's printer server does not support bidirectional connections. That is why the status information for USB printers is not available when they are used as network printers. This is not an error on the part of the FRITZ!Box.

Note:You can retrieve status information if you use the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software to connect the USB printer to a computer. However, in this case only one device can access the printer at a time.
