Type and number of USB devices that can be connected to the FRITZ!Box
You can connect various USB devices such as printers or memory sticks to both of the USB 2.0 ports on the FRITZ!Box. The devices are then available in the FRITZ!Box home network.
1 Supported USB device classes
The FRITZ!Box supports USB devices belonging to the following device classes:
- USB printer
- USB storage device
Note:The FRITZ!Box supports USB storage devices with a maximum of four partitions formatted with the file system NTFS, FAT/FAT32 or ext2/ext3/ext4. Each partition may be up to 4 terabytes in size.
- Mobile broadband dongle (LTE/UMTS/HSPA)
Note:Instead of using a mobile broadband dongle, you can also use the mobile internet connection of an Android smartphone (USB tethering).
- USB hub
- When using the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software:
Scanners and other USB devices that do not require isochronous transfer.
Note:The USB remote connection software is available for Windows 10 / 8 / 7 (64-bit and 32-bit). Isochronous USB devices such as webcams require the instant and continuous transmission of data ("real-time") and cannot be used with the FRITZ!Box.
2 Total number of USB devices
If you are using a USB hub, you can connect up to four USB devices (excluding the USB hub) to the FRITZ!Box at the same time. However, you may only connect one USB printer and one mobile broadband dongle. If you use the FRITZ!Box remote connection software, you can connect up to three USB devices (excluding the USB hub) to the FRITZ!Box at the same time.
The FRITZ!Box treats multifunction devices as several separate USB devices. For example, a printer with an integrated memory card reader is detected as a USB printer and a USB storage device.
For instance, you can use the following USB devices with the FRITZ!Box:
- four USB storage devices
- three USB storage devices and one USB printer
- two USB storage devices, one USB printer, and a mobile broadband dongle
- one USB storage device, one USB printer, and a USB scanner
Note:The FRITZ!Box supplies USB devices with a total of up to 500 mA in accordance with the USB 2.0 specification. Use a USB hub with its own power supply (active USB hub) to connect devices that require more power to the FRITZ!Box.
3 Supported USB standards
You can use USB devices that comply with the following USB standards with the FRITZ!Box:
- USB 3.0 (if the device does not require more than 500 mA as allowed by USB 2.0)
Note:USB 3.0 devices function according to USB 2.0 when connected to the FRITZ!Box.
- USB 2.0
- USB 1.1
