FRITZ!Box 6490 Cable Service - Knowledge Base
Maximum cable lengths
You can connect various devices (for example telephony devices, printers, computers) to your FRITZ!Box. Since the cables of these devices can only be extended to a certain limit, we provide you information on the maximum length of each type of cable here.
1 Network cable
The network cable between the FRITZ!Box and a computer or hub/switch can be up to 100 m in length.
2 Cables for telephony devices
The cable between a telephony device and an analog extension (for example "FON 1") on the FRITZ!Box can normally be up to 100 m in length. However, this depends on the telephony device being used.
The cable between a telephony device and the "FON S0" port on the FRITZ!Box may be up to 10 m in length.
Note:You can also have a technician install an S0 bus which is connected to the "FON S0" port. The ISDN port "FON S0" on the FRITZ!Box must be terminated (two 100 Ohm resistors are switched on the "FON S0" port).
3 Cables for USB devices
The cable of a USB device (for example a printer, mass storage device) connected to the USB port on the FRITZ!Box should not exceed 5 m.
4 Coaxial cable
The maximum length of the coaxial cable depends on your cable connection.
Note:The connection on the FRITZ!Box is a common F connector (female) according to IEC 60169-24.
Your cable provider can provide you with further information on necessary cable lengths or characteristics (for example attenuation).
