No network access to services and shared resources over a VPN connection
You cannot access shared files and printers or other services in the remote FRITZ!Box network over a VPN connection to the FRITZ!Box.
1 Preparations
First, check whether IP communication with devices in the remote FRITZ!Box network is possible over the VPN connection:
Windows
- Press the keyboard shortcut Windows key
+ R.
- Enter cmd in the "Open" field and click "OK".
- Enter ping [IP address of a computer in the remote network] in the command prompt window and press Enter.
Example:
A computer in the remote network has the IP address 192.168.10.20. To ping this computer, enter ping 192.168.10.20 in the command prompt window.Important:The computer must be on and a firewall installed on it must be configured so that it can allows responses to ICMP echo requests. Information on how to set up the firewall can be obtained from the manufacturer.
- Check which messages are displayed in the command prompt window.
- If the message "Reply from [IP address]: bytes..." is displayed, IP communication with the remote network is possible.
- If only the message "The request timed out" is displayed, IP communication with the remote network is not possible.
macOS
- Click the
(Spotlight) button in the menu bar on the top right.
- Enter Network Utility and double-click the application to start it.
- Click on the "Ping" tab in the Network Utility.
- Enter ping [IP address of a computer in the remote network] in the field and click the "Ping" button.
Example:
A computer in the remote network has the IP address 192.168.10.20. To ping this computer, enter ping 192.168.10.20 in the command prompt window.Important:The computer must be on and a firewall installed on it must be configured so that it can allows responses to ICMP echo requests. - Check which messages are displayed by the network utility.
- If the message "64 bytes from..." is displayed, IP communication with the remote network is possible.
- If only the messages "ping: sendto: No route to host", "ping: sendto: Host is down" or "Request timeout..." are displayed, IP communication with the remote network is not possible.

If IP communication over the VPN connection is possible, but you still cannot access shared files and printers in the remote FRITZ!Box network, perform the following step:
