FRITZ!Box 5490 Service

No network access to services and shared resources over VPN connection

You cannot access shared files and printers or other services in the remote FRITZ!Box network over a VPN connection.

1 Preparations

First, check whether IP communication with devices in the remote FRITZ!Box network is possible over the VPN connection:

Windows

  1. Press the keyboard shortcut "Windows key" + "R".
  2. Enter cmd in the "Open" field and click "OK".
  3. Enter ping [IP address of a computer in the remote FRITZ!Box network] in the command prompt window and press Enter.

    Example:
A computer in the network of the remote FRITZ!Box has the IP address 192.168.10.20. To ping this computer, enter ping 192.168.10.20 in the command prompt window.

Important:The computer must be on and a firewall installed on it must be configured so that it allows ICMP echo requests. Refer to the manufacturer of the firewall for information on how to set it up.

  4. Check which messages are displayed in the command prompt window.
    • If the message "Reply from [IP address]: bytes..." is displayed, then IP communication with the remote network is possible.
    • If only the message "The request timed out" is displayed, then no IP communication with the remote network is possible.

macOS

  1. Open the Finder.
  2. Click "Applications" and then "Utilities".
  3. Start the Network Utility.
  4. Click on the "Ping" tab.
  5. Enter ping [IP address of a computer in the remote FRITZ!Box network] in the field and click the "Ping" button.

  6. Check which messages are displayed by the network utility.
    • If the message "64 bytes from..." is displayed, then IP communication with the remote network is possible in principle.
    • If only the messages "ping: sendto: No route to host", "ping: sendto: Host is down" or "Request timeout..." are displayed, IP communication with the remote network is not possible.

2 IP communication is possible: Necessary steps

Perform the following step if IP communication over the VPN connection is possible in principle, but you still cannot access shared files and printers in the remote FRITZ!Box network:

3 IP communication is not possible: Necessary steps

Perform the steps that correspond to your VPN connection type if no IP communication over the VPN connection is possible:
