Using Google calendar for automatic switching

You can easily use a Google calendar to switch smart home devices with outlet switches, for example FRITZ!DECT 200 or FRITZ!Powerline 546E; to do so, simply create events for all of the times when they should be automatically switched on and off. This way you can plan irregular and complex switching operations months in advance and edit them at any time in your personal Google calendar.
You can use the FRITZ!Box user interface to set up automatic switching and choose to switch individual FRITZ!DECT devices or switch a group of smart home devices at the same time. FRITZ!DECT devices and/or the outlet switches of FRITZ!Powerline adapters can be combined into a group. If you want to use the calendar to switch the outlet switch of a single FRITZ!Powerline adapter, then you must create a group for that particular adapter.

Note:The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for your FRITZ!Box.

1 Creating a calendar

  1. Create a new calendar for your Google account and give it a name of your choice, for example "Socket switching".

Important:The name of the calendar may only contain standard Latin letters and numbers; it may not contain any special characters, spaces or umlauts.

  2. Enter the times at which the outlet switch should be turned on and off: Name the time at which the outlet switch is to be turned on "ON" and the time at which it is to be turned off "OFF". These names are not case sensitive. You can also enter switching times later.

Note:You must allow for at least one minute between switching and can configure a maximum of 140 switching points per day.

2 Creating a group

If you want to use the calendar to either switch several smart home devices together or switch FRITZ!Powerline's outlet switch, you must first create a group with these devices:

Important:If you want to use the FRITZ!Box user interface to set up switching for FRITZ!Powerline's outlet switch, you must create a group even if you want to switch just one powerline adapter. You cannot switch FRITZ!Powerline using a Google calendar configured in the FRITZ!Box user interface if it is not assigned to a group.

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click the "New Group" button.
  4. If you are asked to select the type of devices you would like to include in the group, select "Switching Actuators" and click "OK".

Important:You cannot use a Google calendar to switch radiator controls such as FRITZ!DECT 300.

  5. Enter a name for the group and select the smart home devices you would like to switch together in the group.
  6. Click the "OK" button.
    • The group is created.
  7. In the next window, click "OK" to save the settings.

    • The window "Enable FRITZ!Actuator Calendar" containing a verification URL and a user code opens.
  10. Click on the link "Verification URL" and leave the "Enable FRITZ!Actuator Calendar" window open.
    • A window for signing into your Google account opens.
  11. Enter the e-mail address and password for your Google account and click "Sign in".
    • The entry field for the user code appears.
  12. Enter the user code from the "Enable FRITZ!Actuator Calendar" window and click "Next".
  13. Click "Allow".
  14. Switch to the window "Enable FRITZ! Actuator Calendar".

Automatic switching is enabled when the message "The authentication process for the Google Calendar on the FRITZ!Box" appears in the user interface.

4 Synchronizing the calendar

Synchronizing automatically

The calendar is synchronized with the Google calendar at regular intervals. Synchronization automatically takes place every 24 hours around midnight or approximately 24 hours after the last manual synchronization occurred.

Synchronizing manually

If you have entered new switching times in the Google calendar, you can also manually start the calendar synchronization:

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. If you only want to synchronize the Google calendar that you assigned to a single device, select the option "All smart home devices" in the drop-down list "viewing".
  4. If you want to synchronize the Google calendar that you assigned to a group, select the option "All groups" in the drop-down list "viewing".
  5. Click the button (Edit) for the respective device or the group.

  4. If you assigned the Google calendar to a group, select the option "All groups" in the drop-down list "viewing".
  5. Click the button (Edit) for the respective device or the group.
  6. Click on the "Switch automatically" tab.
  7. Click on the link "Remove connections from Google calendar".
  8. Click the button "Reset Google Calendar".
  9. Confirm the question about whether you would like to delete all Google calendars from the FRITZ!Box with "OK".

Now all Google calendars are deleted and all smart home devices that use a Google calendar are set to manual switching.
