Setting up the FRITZ!Box for use with a fiber optic connection

You want to set up the FRITZ!Box on a fiber optic connection? ✔ It's easy with this guide.

If you use the FRITZ!Box with a fiber optic modem, you can also use it on a fiber optic connection. Since the FRITZ!Box establishes and controls its own internet connection over the fiber optic modem, all FRITZ!Box functions (such as such as the firewall, parental controls, MyFRITZ!) are also available without restriction in this operating mode.

Note:The terms "fiber optic connection" or "Fiber to the Home" (FTTH) are used for internet connections where the fiber optic lines lead to a fiber optic modem in the home.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • Internet access is limited to 90 to 93 Mbit/s by the FRITZ!Box's WAN port.

ATTENTION!We recommend using a FRITZ!Box with gigabit LAN because only then will you be able to use the full speed of your internet connection. You can find information on FRITZ!Boxes with gigabit LAN in the product section of our website.

1 Connecting FRITZ!Box with the fiber optic modem

  1. Use a network cable (for example the white network cable included with delivery) to connect the "WAN" port on the FRITZ!Box to the LAN port on the fiber optic modem.

2 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Enter the FRITZ!Box password on the bottom of the device and click "Log In".
  3. Click "Internet" and then "Account Information".
  4. Select "DSL or fiber optic modem" from the drop-down list "Internet connection via".
  5. If your internet service provider is displayed in the drop-down list, select your provider and enter the account information you received from your internet service provider in the corresponding fields.
    • If your internet service provider is not displayed:
      1. Select "Other internet service provider".
      2. Enter the internet account information you received from your internet service provider in the relevant fields. If account information is not required, enable the option "No".
      3. Enter the speeds of your internet connection in the "Downstream" and "Upstream" fields.
      4. If your internet service provider requires you to use a particular VLAN ID, click "Change Connection Settings", enable the option "Use VLAN for internet access", and enter the VLAN ID.
  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

Now the FRITZ!Box uses the account information you entered to establish the internet connection. Then you can connect your wireless devices with the FRITZ!Box.
