FRITZ!Box 3370 Service

Using a Wii console in the FRITZ!Box home network

You can easily connect a Wii console to a LAN port or the wireless network (WiFi) of your FRITZ!Box. The Wii can then access Nintendo's online services using the FRITZ!Box's Internet connection.

Important:Some of the settings described here are only displayed if the advanced view is enabled in the user interface. The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS

1 Preparations

Enabling the FRITZ!Box's DHCP server

The FRITZ!Box is configured as a DHCP server in the factory settings. If you disabled the FRITZ!Box's DHCP server, configure the following settings:

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Home Network Overview" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click on the "Network Settings" tab.
  4. Click the "IPv4 Addresses" button.
  5. Enable the DHCP server and define the range from which the FRITZ!Box assigns IP addresses.

    Note:The FRITZ!Box uses the IP address 192.168.178.1 (subnet mask 255.255.255.0) and assigns IP addresses from xxx.20 to xxx.200 in the factory settings.

  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Adjusting the wireless channel settings

Wii only supports wireless connections in the 2.4 GHz frequency band. If you enabled the 5 GHz frequency band in the FRITZ!Box, select a wireless standard in the FRITZ!Box that uses the 2.4 GHz frequency band:

  1. Click "Wireless" ("WLAN") in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Radio Channel" in the "Wireless" ("WLAN") menu.
  3. Enable the option "Adjust radio channel settings".
  4. Select the standard "802.11n+g+b" from the "Wireless standard" drop-down list.
  5. Click "Apply" to save your settings.
  6. Re-establish the wireless connection to the FRITZ!Box.

2 Connecting the Wii console to the FRITZ!Box

Connect the Wii to the FRITZ!Box's wireless network, or connect it to the the FRITZ!Box using a network cable:

Note:The Wii requires a Wii-LAN-Adapter to connect it to a network cable. This adapter must be purchased separately.

Connecting the Wii console to a wireless network

  1. Click the "Wii" button at the bottom left of the Wii Menu.
  2. Click "Wii Settings".
  3. Click the blue arrow pointing to the right to access the next System Settings page.
  4. Click on "Internet" and then "Connection Settings".
  5. Select an empty connection slot labeled "None".
  6. Click on "Wireless Connection", then on "Search for an Access Point", and then on "OK"
    • You will now see a list of available access points.
  7. Select the name of the FRITZ!Box's wireless network (SSID).

  8. Enter the FRITZ!Box's network key and confirm the entry.
  9. Click "OK" to save the connection settings.

Connecting the Wii console using a network cable

  1. Connect the Wii's Wii-LAN adapter to a network cable, and then connect the network cable to a LAN port on the FRITZ!Box.
  2. Click the "Wii" button at the bottom left of the Wii Menu.
  3. Click "Wii Settings".
  4. Click the blue arrow to switch to the next Wii System Settings page.
  5. Click on "Internet" and then "Connection Settings".
  6. Select an empty connection slot labeled "None".
  7. Click on "Wired Connection".
  8. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Now the Wii console is connected to the Internet via the FRITZ!Box. You can play online games or use other functions offered by Nintendo's online services.
