More performance, convenience and security: New FRITZ!OS for FRITZ!Box Cable models
FRITZ!OS 7.21 is available for the FRITZ!Box 6591 Cable today. All current FRITZ!Box Cable models have now received the major update, which brings over 100 new features to FRITZ!Box at cable connections. Starting with FRITZ!OS 7.20, AVM is implementing WPA3. The new encryption standard brings significant improvements in the authentication and security of Wi-Fi networks. With Wi-Fi guest access, a public Wi-Fi hot spot can now also be set up over which encrypted data are securely transmitted – thanks to Enhanced Open/Opportunistic Wireless Encryption (OWE). For example, cafés or doctors' surgeries can offer a public Wi-Fi hotspot that is secure and doesn't require users to enter a password. With the new "Performance Mesh Steering", the Mesh software from AVM guarantees optimal Wi-Fi connections in the home network. The FRITZ! Mesh system regularly checks the connection quality of wireless terminal devices and automatically directs them to better Wi-Fi bands or Mesh repeaters in the home network. Furthermore, the Mesh auto channel selection has been improved, ensuring the best frequency channel is always selected for the entire Mesh.
With FRITZ!OS 7.21, the FRITZ!Box 6660 Cable and 6591 Cable also support DVB-C streaming. This enables the two FRITZ!Box models to recognize free-to-air television programs and stream these over Wi-Fi in the home network. In addition, the new FRITZ!OS brings a number of enhancements to convenience functions, including answering machines, fax, and call diversion.
