Stiftung Warentest: Three FRITZ!Box models come out on top in router comparison

AVM comes out on top in router test, with three FRITZ!Box models leading the rankings in the latest issue (March 2020) of Stiftung Warentest, Germany's leading consumer magazine. A total of eight routers were tested, seven for DSL and one for cable. The FRITZ!Box 7590 is the clear test winner - it is the first router ever to receive the rating "very good". The FRITZ!Box 7530 and FRITZ!Box 6591 Cable also ranked "good" ahead of the test competition. Together, the three FRITZ!Box models build on previous test wins: following on from 2012 and 2017, it is the third triple success from the Stiftung Warentest, which was established in 1964 by the German federal parliament as an independent, nonprofit organization. All three FRITZ!Box models received a "very good" rating in the ease of use, security and telephony categories, placing them well ahead of the competition. Stiftung Warentest concludes: "Once again, AVM's FRITZ!Boxes are best in class, bringing together a wide range of features and ease of use". The FRITZ!Box 7590 was awarded the rating "very good" in five out of six categories. This was the first time that an overall rating of 1.5 ("very good") was awarded in a router comparison carried out by Stiftung Warentest. The FRITZ!Box 7530 was given the classification of 1.6, which corresponds to a quality rating of "good". With three ratings of "good" and three "very good", the FRITZ!Box 7530 achieved second place among DSL routers. Furthermore, the FRITZ!Box 7530 is an energy saver, says the Stiftung Warentest: "The inexpensive FRITZ!Box uses the least amount of electricity. Like the test winner, it offers very good filter and telephony features, as well as being easy to use". The FRITZ!Box 6591 Cable, the only cable router in the test, received the quality rating "good" and impressed the Stiftung Warentest "in almost all aspects". It's not just "good 2.4-GHz and very good 5-GHz Wi-Fi" and telephony that are among the plus points. In fact, the whole range of features made an impression: "Extremely versatile, with multiple ports, Mesh Wi-Fi and Smart Home."
