Retail launch for FRITZ!Box models for fiber optics from AVM

For fiber optic connections: FRITZ!Box 5490 and FRITZ! 5491 available now in Germany

The two latest FRITZ!Box models for fiber optics are now commercially available. The FRITZ!Box 5491 and FRITZ!Box 5490 are two powerful devices for direct connection at the optical network unit (ONU). The FRITZ!Box 5491 is suitable for Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) connections, while the FRITZ!Box 5490 supports active point-to-point technology. Both FRITZ!Box models seamlessly distribute the fiber optic speed of up to 1 Gbit/s in the home network. Fast dual-band wireless LAN with Mesh functions and gigabit LAN ensure optimal networking. Surfing the internet, streaming movies, online gaming and much more are all possible at the same time. As the FRITZ!Box can be connected directly to the optical network unit, no additional equipment is required – the FRITZ!Box already has everything on board. For convenient telephony in HD, both fiber optics products incorporate a telephone system with answering machines, an integrated DECT base station for up to six cordless telephones, and connection options for analog, ISDN and IP telephones. The powerful media server streams music, images, and videos throughout the entire home network. Smart Home functions based on DECT round out the full range of features. The FRITZ!Box models for fiber optics offer business customers important features such as VPN connections and support IP-based PBX connections such as the SIP trunk from   Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and many other providers. Router freedom has been in place in Germany for three years. Be it fiber optics, DSL, cable or mobile networks – the law in Germany states that users can use the device of their choice at any kind of connection. In other countries such as the Netherlands, Switzerland or Spain, fiber optic routers such as the FRITZ!Box 5490 and FRITZ!Box 5491 are already freely available on the market. Users can use the FRITZ!Box directly and problem-free at the fiber optic outlet, benefiting from the high speeds provided by fiber optic networks. Users can find further information on connecting their fiber optic FRITZ!Box atäuft. The FRITZ!Box-5490 is now available for 199 euros [in Germany] and the FRITZ!Box 5491 for 249 euros [in Germany].
