Spring clean your home network
As the days get warmer and the first blossoms appear, our minds turn to spring cleaning. But while dusting away the cobwebs and getting rid of the clutter, it's important for users not to forget their home networks. Here are five tips to get clarity and security with a FRITZ!Box.
Are your devices up-to-date? Check for updates now
AVM regularly provides updates with new features and improvements for the FRITZ! product family. Just head to the FRITZ!Box's user interface to check if there are new updates, or change your settings to get notified by email. Whether it's a FRITZ!Box, FRITZ!Fon, FRITZ!WLAN Repeater or FRITZ!Powerline adapter - updating FRITZ! products can be done at the click of a mouse and from one central place. Users can also enable the auto-update function, allowing the FRITZ!Box to take over the job.
Clean up your call history
The FRITZ!Box can store up to 400 entries for incoming, outgoing or missed calls. Clearing your call log not only provides a better overview: users can also save phone numbers before deleting them, or even block them if they're unwanted. It's also possible also copy telephone numbers from the caller log to the directory with your FRITZ!Fon.
Remove inactive devices from the user interface
Whether it's the smartphones or tablets of the guests who came to your New Year's Eve party, family members who haven't been over in a while or other visitors, or devices no longer being used - they are all displayed in the FRITZ!Box's network overview. Users can delete any unneeded entries with the click of a mouse, giving them a clearer overview of what devices are actually being used in their home networks.
Get rid of old access links with FRITZ! NAS
The FRITZ!Box's integrated NAS function makes it possible to share files, pictures and videos with friends and family via a share link, even while on the move. Over time, however, it's easy for users to forget what content they've shared and for how long. And with spring here, it's high time to delete any access links no longer needed.
Synchronize your contacts
A practical feature of the FRITZ!Box is the integration of the current contacts from a user's personal email account (Gmail, Apple, etc.) as a directory in your FRITZ!Box. However, users who have opted for manual synchronization between the FRITZ!Box and their contact list will, over time, find contacts they've deleted from their smartphone in their FRITZ!Box's directory, or new contacts will not be displayed on the FRITZ!Box. Luckily there's an easy fix: users can click 'Synchronize' to start synching.
