BBWF: New FRITZ!Box for GPON fiber optic connections and Mesh WiFi from the port to the entire home

At the Broadband World Forum – 24 to 26 October in Berlin – AVM is presenting FRITZ!Box models for high transmission rates on the last mile of fiber optic, DSL, LTE and cable connections. The Berlin-based communication specialist will also be demonstrating Mesh WiFi for great range live. For the first time AVM is introducing a model for GPON fiber optic connections with data rates of up to 1 Gbit/s during downloads with its FRITZ!Box 5491. Same as the FRITZ!Box 5490, which is already available for active fiber optic connections, the new fiber optic product comes with extensive equipment for the home network: dual band Wireless AC+N, four gigabit LAN ports, DECT base station and telephony. AVM is also presenting the powerful FRITZ!Box 7582 at the BBWF for the next DSL expansion phases G.fast and 35b supervectoring. It achieves download rates of up to 1 Gbit/s over short distances and is compatible with all existing lines: VDSL vectoring, VDSL and ADSL. The FRITZ!Box 7582 brings fast dual band Wireless AC+N to the home network. It supports telephone calls in HD quality and offers connection options for DECT, IP and analog phones. The FRITZ!Box 6890 LTE for fast Internet via mobile networks with up to 300 Mbit/s during download and strong wireless LAN is also getting ready for roll-out. The FRITZ!Box 6591 Cable will add gigabit speed to cable connections, once the DOCSIS 3.1 standard is released for cable networks. The FRITZ!Box 7590 for 35b supervectoring is also coming to the BBWF and function as a demonstration platform for Mesh WiFi. As a pioneer in Mesh WiFi AVM addresses the demand for greater range for multiple wireless devices with its Internet router FRITZ!Box. The faster connections become and the number of mobile devices in the home grows, the more speed and performance is required in the home network. All this is supported by the new FRITZ!OS 6.90, which offers even more Mesh convenience. Thanks to this new version, the FRITZ!Box distributes data seamlessly and at great transmission rates to smartphones, tablets and the like throughout the entire home. AVM is presenting all highlights under the slogan "Intelligent WiFi" at the BBWF in hall 21a, stand C104.

The new FRITZ!Box 5491 for GPON fiber optic connections

With the new FRITZ!Box 5491 AVM is expanding its product portfolio with another terminal device for direct connections to fiber optic outlets (Gf-TAE or FTU). The new FRITZ!Box relies on GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) for FTTH connections (Fiber to the Home). The equipment of the FRITZ!Box resembles that of the FRITZ!Box 5490, which is already available and supports the active point-to point technology. Fiber optic speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s are also available for the home network using either of the models: fast gigabit LAN and Dual Wireless AC + N provide for optimized networking. Surfing the Internet, streaming films, online gaming and many other applications can run simultaneously. Due to the direct connectivity options of the FRITZ!Box to the fiber optic TAE jack or FTU (Fiber Termination Unit), there's no separate device, e.g. an Optical Network Unit (ONU), required. The FRITZ!Box 5491 offers higher speed and greater range in the home network featuring Wireless AC (5 GHz) with 1300 Mbit/s and Wireless N (2.4 GHz) with 450 Mbit/s. For convenient telephony in HD, both fiber optic products incorporate a telephone system with answering machines, an integrated DECT base station for up to six cordless telephones and connection options for analog, ISDN and IP telephones. The powerful media server streams music, images, and videos throughout the entire home network. Smart Home functions based on DECT round out the full range of features. The FRITZ!Box 5491 supports simplified provisioning on the basis of the CPE WAN Management protocol (TR-069), easing the implementation of provider services like Internet, IP TV and Voice over IP. With its low power consumption of about 7 Watts when idle (stand-by) the new FRITZ!Box is very efficient.

FRITZ!Box 7582 - Flexible and future-ready: for G.fast, VDSL incl. supervectoring, ADSL

At the BBWF AVM is also presenting the FRITZ!Box 7582 for G.fast and 35b supervectoring, which is already offered by initial network providers. With G.fast and 35b supervectoring, the fast speeds achieved by fiber optic networks can be made available in homes via the copper wires already installed. The FRITZ!Box 7582 is perfectly tailored to these DSL expansion phases and guarantees compatibility with all existing lines: VDSL vectoring, VDSL and ADSL. The top equipment of the FRITZ!Box is designed not only for the communications network, but for the home network as well. Fast dual-band Wireless AC + N provides for high data throughput even over greater distances. In addition to Wireless AC with 1300 Mbit/s (5 GHz), at the same time a Wireless N network with 450 Mbit/s (2.4 GHz) can be used for many mobile devices. The new FRITZ!Box supports telephone calls in HD quality and offers connections for DECT, IP and analog telephones. Equipped with all of the FRITZ!OS features, the FRITZ!Box 7582 is the perfect hub for Smart Home applications. These include the media server, the NAS function, and the control of FRITZ! smart plugs and FRITZ! radiator controls. What is more, it provides convenient functions like wireless guest access, parental controls, and MyFRITZ! for secure access to the home network from anywhere.

FRITZ!OS 6.90 for Mesh WiFi, convenience and stability in the entire home network

The new FRITZ!OS 6.90 for FRITZ!Box, FRITZ!WLAN Repeater and FRITZ!Powerline offers even more wireless Mesh performance. On top of this, the new release improves FRITZ! products in terms of stability, security and convenience. Mesh networking is a new trend in the home network and has been a feature of FRITZ! for a long time. A Mesh network like the FRITZ! home network ensures that fast, stable WiFi with high data rates is available to all devices in the entire home. This Mesh networking convenience has been expanded by AVM with FRITZ!OS 6.90. The communication among all FRITZ! products (FRITZ!Box, wireless repeaters, powerline adapters) is improved, so that settings can be synchronized and the performance of connected terminal devices optimized. And all this runs smoothly and automatically. One of the new features that come with FRITZ!OS 6.90 is the new home network overview with an innovative Mesh connection diagram for more transparency and convenience. It shows which FRITZ! product is connected to smartphone, notebook and the like, along with the quality of their connections. Other novelties include band steering for FRITZ!WLAN Repeater and FRITZ!Powerline devices, the extension of the automatic wireless channel selection, and the "self-healing function" during connection loss. FRITZ!OS 6.90 is already available for four FRITZ!Box models. At the BBWF AVM is demonstrating the features of FRITZ!OS 6.90 with a FRITZ!Box 7590 as the Mesh hub along with the Mesh networking points FRITZ!WLAN Repeater and FRITZ!Powerline with dual band Wireless AC+N.

Speed on the cable connection and fast Internet via LTE: FRITZ!Box 6591 Cable and 6890 LTE

The new FRITZ!Box 6890 LTE is about to be released and offers fast Internet with up to 300 Mbit/s via the mobile network (5 LTE and 2 UMTS frequencies). Instead of connecting via the mobile network, the new FRITZ!Box can also be used directly on the DSL connection or on the WAN port of cable and fiber optic modems. AVM is also presenting a powerful product for the future of cable networks at BBWF: The FRITZ!Box 6591 Cable supports the upcoming DOCSIS 3.1 standard and is downward compatible to DOCSIS 3.0. Through OFDM channel bonding in accordance with DOCSIS 3.1 it achieves top speeds of up to 6 Gbit/s downstream and 2 Gbit/s upstream and offers providers additional flexibility through configurable upstream frequency coverage. Both models are powerful 4x4 wireless routers supporting Multi-User MIMO technology and provide for great speed and range with up to 2533 Mbit/s. This allows many applications like streaming or gaming to be used on multiple devices concurrently.
