  • One year of router freedom

At the IFA Innovations Media Briefing on 11 and 12 July in Berlin, AVM is presenting a preview of its IFA highlights 2017. Central focus is on wireless mesh in the home network. Due to the simple setup, the perfect interaction of components and latest technology, FRITZ! products always provide for optimum WiFi coverage with high data throughput. At the event AVM is presenting a lab version of the next major FRITZ!OS, which will offer even more wireless mesh performance for FRITZ! products. Existing FRITZ!Box models, FRITZ!WLAN Repeaters and FRITZ!Powerline/wireless products also benefit from new features and functionalities free of charge. At the IFA Media Briefing AVM is also putting the spotlight on the FRITZ!Powerline 1260E: The combination of gigabit powerline and fast Wireless AC+N makes the new product ideal for the interaction of all components in the mesh home network. It supports both wireless LAN frequencies, 2.4 and 5 GHz, and offers an additional channel over the electrical wiring via powerline. Moreover, AVM is presenting the FRITZ!App WLAN for Android in a new design. Wireless throughput measurements are more precise with it and the app records network switches and connection failures. With the FRITZ!Box 7590 and FRITZ!Box 6590 Cable, AVM has just launched two flagship models for DSL and cable on the market that provide great wireless mesh convenience for all home network devices. Both offer rapid download rates and ultra-fast wireless LAN. Apart from this, AVM looks back on one year of router freedom at the Media Briefing and comes to a positive conclusion. AVM is appearing at this year's IFA in September under the motto "New Connections".

More mesh performance in the home network

Since introducing the first wireless repeater for the electric outlet in 2008, AVM has pioneered in the flexible expansion of wireless range and high data throughput in home networks. In 2017 FRITZ! products still represent strong connections and intelligent networking. FRITZ! products build a homogenous network, are optimized to connect and exchange each other. This way they provide greater convenience and performance in the home network – and all of that autonomously, fluently and without help of the user. After entering a secure network password, users are automatically granted a wireless connection. All devices use a wireless network with the same name and network key. Current FRITZ!Box models all have fast and extensive dual band wireless LAN on board. Is the WiFi supposed to range over great distances or cover several floors, then the home network can be extended modularly with FRITZ!WLAN Repeaters or FRITZ!Powerlines. No new, elaborate configuration is required, a push of a button suffices. The FRITZ!Box functions as the heart of the mesh network. It coordinates and optimizes the entire radio network as "Mesh Master". The upcoming FRITZ!OS version will provide even more mesh performance. Part of that are the new graphical mesh overview offering greater transparency, a touch of a button for all connections, simplified powerline extensions as well as band steering for FRITZ!WLAN Repeaters and FRITZ!Powerlines supporting WiFi. The next FRITZ!OS can already be tested as a German lab version.

Flexible and fast: FRITZ!Powerline 1260E with Wireless AC+N

The FRITZ!Powerline 1260E combines gigabit powerline of up to 1200 Mbit/s with fast dual band wireless LAN. The latest FRITZ!Powerline model transports data over the electrical wiring and transfers them via gigabit LAN or WiFi to notebook, smartphone or tablet. By using 2x2 Wireless AC+N with MIMO, the FRITZ!Powerline 1260E transmits with up to 860 Mbit/s in the 5 GHz frequency band and up to 400 Mbit/s in the 2.4 GHz frequency band, so that all smartphones, tablets and notebooks can be integrated in the wireless home network, even in the remotest corners of the home. This makes the slim FRITZ!Powerline model ideal for applications like HD streaming, gaming or downloads that require stable and high transfer speeds. Combined with a FRITZ!Box users can take full advantage of the wireless mesh convenience.

Full control of the radio network: The new FRITZ!App WLAN

At IFA AVM will be presenting a new version of the FRITZ!App WLAN for Android. With the new function "Measure WiFi throughput" users can easily measure the connection speed of smartphone or tablet at different locations within the radio network. Data throughput and signal strength are displayed in real time and the results can be shared or sent for further analysis. Plus, the app records network switches and connection failures. If the user owns a FRITZ!WLAN Repeater or a FRITZ!Powerline device supporting WiFi, the roaming activities between these devices are displayed. A German beta version of the FRITZ!App WLAN for Android is already available (https://plus.google.com/communities/105827627148453514374).

New flagships: FRITZ!Box 7590 and FRITZ!Box 6590 Cable

With the FRITZ!Box 7590 and FRITZ!Box 6590 Cable, AVM has launched two flagship models for DSL and cable on the market. The FRITZ!Box 7590 supports 35b supervectoring and achieves up to 300 Mbit/s for high speeds on the DSL connection. Thanks to 32x8 DOCSIS 3.0 channel bonding, the FRITZ!Box 6590 Cable brings high-speed Internet with up to 1.7 Gbit/s to the cable connection. Both models offer ultra-fast dual-band Wireless AC+N with 4x4 Multi-User MIMO (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz) for the integration of many mobile devices and great range thanks to mesh convenience. The latest hardware architecture, gigabit LAN at lightning speeds, plus a complete telephone system and DECT base station for telephony and Smart Home applications round out the first-class features. The FRITZ!Box 7590, presented in a completely new design, can be deployed on existing and future DSL lines: All IP, ISDN, analog. In addition to smart WiFi and a telephone system, the FRITZ!Box 6590 Cable features top-notch equipment, with four gigabit LAN ports and two USB 2.0 ports. On top of this, it's possible to stream the free TV signal on smartphone, tablet or notebook.

Successful TelCom Terminal Equipment Law - one year of router freedom

About a year ago – on 1 August 2016 – the so-called "ISP lock" was abolished by law in Germany. Since then, users are free to choose whether to buy a terminal device in retail or use the one from the provider for their access technologies. The competition that resulted from this last year lead to a greater variety of innovative and powerful products on the market, which the customers benefit from as they are now able to choose the device that suits their circumstances best. The technical implementation of router freedom in the networks was also successful. Users can connect their desired router on their own using the individual account information no matter if it's for DSL or cable networks. Because of this as well as due to the innovative force and the increased demand for cable routers in retail, AVM draws a very positive conclusion from the first year of router freedom.
