Court dismisses Gigaset complaint
The case brought by Gigaset Communications GmbH against AVM has been dismissed completely by the Düsseldorf District Court. Gigaset had filed a patent infringement complaint to prevent AVM from implementing manufacturer-specific protocols by using the non-proprietary DECT standard. Such protocols are part of the operating software, used to transmit demand messages like softkeys and regional language settings to a DECT mobile handset.
This ruling affirms AVM's view that the DECT standard has expressly allowed for any form of manufacturer-specific protocols since 1996. The judgement is not yet legally binding.
