Changing the passwords for email accounts

After installing the update you should change all of the passwords that were saved in the FRITZ!Box as a precaution. Here we show you how to change the passwords for your email accounts configured in the FRITZ!Box:

1 Changing the email passwords with the corresponding provider

  • Change the passwords for all email accounts that you configured in the FRITZ!Box for any of the following services:
    • Push service for answering machine messages, faxes, or FRITZ!Box status information
    • Online contacts from 1&1 Internet, GMX, Google or WEB.DE
    • Sending and receiving emails with your FRITZ!Fon cordless telephone

    Note:Usually you can change the password for an email account in the "Settings" section of your email provider's web mail interface (for example web.de, gmx.net, mail.google.com).

2 Changing the password for sending push service mails

The following steps are only necessary if you configured one or more push services (for example for forwarding answering machine messages and faxes or FRITZ!Box status information by email):

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Push Service" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click on the "Sender" tab.
  4. Enter the new password for the email account in the "Password" field.
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

3 Changing the passwords for online contacts

The following steps are only necessary if you configured online contacts (for example 1&1 Internet, GMX, Google) in the FRITZ!Box:

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Book" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click on the "Switch telephone books" link and select the online contacts.
  4. Click the "Edit" button .
  5. Enter the new password for the email account in the "Password" field.
  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

4 Changing the passwords for the email accounts used by FRITZ!Fon

The following steps are only necessary if you configured email accounts for sending and receiving email with a FRITZ!Fon cordless telephone in the FRITZ!Box:

  1. Click "DECT" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Web Services" or "Internet Services" in the "DECT" menu.
  3. Click the button (Edit) for the respective email account.
  4. Enter the new password for the email account in the "Password" field.
  5. Click "OK" to save the settings.
