This FRITZ! Lab contains new functions fresh from the AVM development team and gives a preview of upcoming FRITZ!OS features in the next major update.

The Lab kicks off with user interface updates, new FRITZ!Fon features, VPN support for WireGuard and additional improvements for Wi-Fi, Mesh and more. Other interesting features will follow in the coming weeks.

How to install on FRITZ!Box

You're not using the current FRITZ!OS on your FRITZ!Box yet? Then first update FRITZ!OS to the latest release version. Here we tell you how this works.

Once your FRITZ!Box has the latest FRITZ!OS installed you can start installation of the lab version.

Read and confirm the information displayed.
Click "Download" and save the file on your computer.
Unpack the lab file (*.zip)
Use the FRITZ!Box user interface to install the update and then select "View: Advanced" in the footer.
Select the "System / Update" menu.
Select the "FRITZ!OS file" tab. Save the settings of your FRITZ!Box.
Then enter the name of the lab version with its complete path in the input field (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Desktop\FRITZ!Box-Lab-xxxx.image).
Click "Start Update".
Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.

During the update process the "Info" LED on your FRITZ!Box will flash. The LED goes out once the update is complete. Please be patient, as this process may take several minutes. As soon as the update has been completed, the FRITZ!Box restarts and is then ready for operation.

Note when using multiple FRITZ!Boxes: only one FRITZ!Box can and must play the role of the "Mesh Master". In the default setting, this is the Box with the direct connection to the Internet. You can adjust the role of a FRITZ!Box within the mesh network over the support page (fritz.box/support.lua).

How to install on FRITZ!Repeater

Not yet installed the current lab version for your FRITZ!Box? Update your FRITZ!Box's FRITZ!OS to the latest lab version now.

Once your FRITZ!Box has the latest FRITZ!OS installed, you can start installing the lab version on your FRITZ!Repeater.

Choose from one of the following options:

Automatic update: If you have automatic updates enabled in the FRITZ!Box user interface (default setting with FRITZ!OS 7.19 and later), the lab version will automatically be installed on FRITZ!Repeater. You'll need to have the FRITZ!OS 7.24 lab version installed on your FRITZ!Box and the FRITZ!Repeater must be enabled for Mesh. It can take up to 48 hours for the FRITZ!Repeater to indicate the update, and will be installed overnight.
Update via FRITZ!Box Mesh Overview: Open the FRITZ!Box user interface and select Home Network > Mesh to get to the Mesh Overview. Click the button on the picture of the FRITZ!Repeater to start the update. It can take up to 48 hours for the FRITZ!Repeater to indicate the update. If the update is not showing up, try again later or start the update search on the FRITZ!Repeater user interface.
Update via FRITZ!Repeater user interface: Open the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater and select System > Update > Find New FRITZ!OS. Alternatively, you can update the FRITZ!Repeater to the lab version via the FRITZ!OS File tab using the image file from the ZIP archive linked below.

If you want to restore the release version of FRITZ!OS, open the FRITZ!Repeater user interface and select Back to the Official FRITZ!OS under System > Update.

If you are unable to access the repeater interface, you can also use the recover program included in the ZIP archive linked below.

Important

This FRITZ! Lab version is a beta. We tested the software in standard environments before making it available to the public, but it may still result in malfunctions. AVM will not be liable for any damages that arise from the use of the lab version. You can restore the official FRITZ!OS to your FRITZ!Box at any time under "System / Update / FRITZ!OS Version", or reset the FRITZ!Box using the included Windows program "recover.exe" (included in the lab package).
